Are you an experienced traffic engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to work on impactful transportation projects?

We are seeking a Project Traffic Engineer to lead and contribute to key initiatives involving traffic and parking studies, transportation planning, event traffic management, and roadway design.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage and execute traffic and transportation engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring all objectives, budgets, and deadlines are met.
  • Conduct traffic studies, roadway designs, and signal system evaluations to improve transportation infrastructure.
  • Prepare feasibility analyses, reports, specifications, and design plans for a variety of projects.
  • Oversee and review traffic impact studies and permitting processes in compliance with Illinois state regulations.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff, providing guidance on best practices, project execution, and career development.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, planners, and stakeholders to develop innovative transportation solutions.
  • Assist in business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
  • Represent projects in meetings with clients, agencies, and regulatory bodies, ensuring seamless communication and compliance.
  • Participate in field visits to assess project conditions and provide real-world engineering solutions.

What You Bring to the Table

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 6+ years of experience in traffic engineering, including roadway and traffic signal design.
  • Familiarity with Illinois DOT permitting processes and Chicagoland transportation networks.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic analysis tools such as HCS and SYNCHRO; experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing client needs, deadlines, and budgets.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior staff and lead project teams effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for site visits and client meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with municipal, state, and private-sector transportation projects.
  • Understanding of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively when tackling complex transportation challenges.
  • Interest in advancing smart mobility solutions and innovative traffic management strategies.
