Job Title: Technical Writer – Level 1 (Grade 15)

Location: Batesville, IN

Work Schedule: Hybrid (Onsite required Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays)

Contract Length: 12 months, Pay- $40 to $44/hr

Position Summary:

Seeking a Technical Writer – Level 1 to support the creation, editing, and maintenance of operational and instructional documentation for medical devices. The ideal candidate will work closely with sustaining engineering and technical writing teams to revise and occasionally create documentation that aligns with regulatory standards and department guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit, format, and proofread instructional documents with close supervision.
• Collaborate with Sustaining Engineering to revise existing documents for product changes.
• Occasionally develop new documentation for larger product updates.
• Participate in peer reviews for grammar, content accuracy, and style consistency.
• Assist in preparing documentation plans and provide input for Change Design Plans and Reports.
• Estimate development timelines and manage document production.
• Conduct interviews with technical teams to gather content.
• Provide input to illustrators for artwork and diagrams.
• Assist with translation processes and vendor coordination.
• Support overall team workflow and meet project deadlines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience as a Technical Writer or in a similar documentation role.
• Proficient in Adobe FrameMaker.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret technical concepts.
• Solid writing background or formal education in writing.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Associate’s degree in Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Familiarity with tools like InDesign, Oxygen XML, and content management/version control systems is a plus.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and ability to visually communicate concepts.
• Emerging understanding of FDA and regulatory documentation standards.

Nice to Have:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with CMS and version control platforms.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into user-friendly content.
