Job Description

lab manager

Are you a hands-on maker with a mind for innovation and a passion for product perfection? We’re looking for a brilliant, positive, and driven Lab Manager to lead our in-house testing lab and bring product ideas to life! If you’re experienced in candle or soap making, wildly organized, self-motivated, and love experimenting & perfecting new products—this is your dream role. This is more than just a job—it’s a hands-on opportunity to help shape the future of our product innovation! If you’re a maker with a heart for quality and a head full of ideas, we want to meet you. Let’s make magic! ✨

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the Lab: Be the go-to expert in our on-site lab in Haltom City, TX—testing, developing, and improving a wide range of products including candles, soaps, beauty, bath, pet, and home fragrance items (and anything else we dream up).
  • Product Testing: Prepare and test formulations to ensure the highest standards in performance and safety. You’ll take pride in making sure everything we launch meets our bar for excellence.
  • Work Smart & Independently: Own your time and workspace. You'll confidently manage daily priorities while staying aligned with larger team goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate & Communicate: Keep communication flowing with stakeholders across the company. You’ll keep everyone in the loop and hit project deadlines with ease.
  • Keep it Tidy & On Track: Maintain a clean, organized lab space and manage the inventory of all materials and supplies.
  • Support the Team: Prepare samples for marketing shoots, business development, and events. Help our sales and customer service teams with product questions and technical support.
  • Document Like a Pro: Log all testing activities, sample records, material movements, and lab data clearly and consistently in our shared company Drive.
  • Operate & Maintain Equipment: Work with tools like 3D printers, wax melters, CNC lasers, and any new tech we invest in. Keep everything maintained and documented for safety and efficiency.
  • Follow Lab Best Practices: Precise measuring (with some room for creative experimenting!), Avoid cross-contamination etc.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and productive environment
  • Be a Creative Force: Bring your ideas to the table! Recommend improvements, research new methods, and help us stay ahead of market trends.
  • Shine in the Spotlight: Represent the company at shoots, workshops, or events where we showcase our products and expertise.

Who you are:

  • Proven experience in candle making, soap making, or related product development
  • Strong understanding of measurements, ratios, and formulation techniques—you’re comfortable converting units, scaling recipes, and measuring down to the gram
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Positive, high-energy attitude with a solutions-first mindset
  • Independent self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Creative thinker with a deep love for making and experimentation
  • Comfortable working with lab equipment and learning new tools/tech

Why makesy?

We’re a passionate, purpose-driven company on a mission to empower makers everywhere. From clean, high-quality ingredients to luxurious packaging and game-changing educational resources, we’re the one-stop creative shop for candle makers, soap lovers, beauty alchemists, and home fragrance fanatics.

Our team is made up of innovators, problem-solvers, and all-around awesome humans who believe in doing things better—for people and the planet. We don’t just sell supplies—we help our community make it happen. ✨

If you love crafting new things, geeking out over product formulas, and being surrounded by a team that genuinely cheers each other on, you’re gonna love it here.
