Job Description

Freefly Systems - Woodinville, WA (Onsite)

At Freefly we have been focused on building the world's most efficient professional drone ecosystem for over a decade. We went from a garage startup to powering the majority of film and tv productions in under 5 years. While our early focus was film and video, we realized along the way our drones could do so much more, setting new standards in workhouse industrial drones. Our elite Engineering team is looking to push boundaries even further and looking for a skilled and driven Electrical Engineer to help shape the future of the drone industry.

As part of our team, you’ll contribute to the development of the next generation of innovative industrial and cinematic products in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, startup environment.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with a diverse portfolio of built work and a deep passion for complex electromechanical systems. Experience with various PCBA software tools, entrepreneurship or consulting, aerospace, or consumer electronics is a plus.

Above all, we’re looking for someone with a positive “can-do” attitude, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to embrace challenges and learn from failures to create products that users love.

Responsibilities :
  • Complete electrical systems design for subsystems or entire products, from concept through production
  • Establish requirements and test plans for integrating required peripherals and IO into a product
  • Create wiring diagrams and plan the high-level architecture of a product containing multiple circuit boards and wiring harnesses
  • Design, develop, and test electrical subsystems at both the board and product level.
  • Perform simulation, testing, and analysis to ensure products that live up to the Freefly name
  • Multitask across a range of products in varying levels of completion while meeting schedules and hitting milestones
  • Provide cross-functional support to internal and external teams
  • Mentor and teach whenever possible
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of designing, building, and deploying the electrical architecture for complex electrical systems containing multiple circuit boards and wiring harnesses
  • Completing complex schematic and board design in PCB layout software.
  • Writing, reviewing, and carrying out test plans at both the board level and product level of a complex electrical system
  • Designing power distribution architectures, ranging from high power (100+A) to low power (uA-level)
  • Serial digital communication knowledge (UART, I2C, SPI)
  • Hands-on experience with measurement and test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc)
  • Comfortable taking a product from concept to shipping in the 3-6 month time frame
  • Self-guided in taking a non-functioning electrical system prototype and diagnose the problem, perform design updates, and document solutions and validation tests
  • Passion for learning and problem solving from first principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to drive forward multidisciplinary groups in regards to schedule and tasks
  • Must possess great ‘feel’. We need to move fast and good hunches save time
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Altium PCB design software
  • Experience with RF applications, including integration, troubleshooting and testing of radios and GPS receivers
  • Experience with radio communications systems such as serial and ethernet modems, wifi, etc.
  • Expertise in high-speed communication technologies such as USB, Ethernet, HDMI, and MIPI
  • Background in developing high-reliability and/or safety-critical electrical systems with fault-tolerant design redundancy
  • ARM Cortex M3/M4/M7 software development or debugging experience
  • Knowledge of real-time digital control loop tuning
  • Experience diagnosing and/or designing DC-DC converters and 3-phase motor controllers
  • Imaging sensors & processing is a plus
  • Proficiency with git or other version control systems
  • Knowledge of design principles to minimize electromagnetic emissions and improve immunity to electromagnetic interference

We value learning agility vs experience, so if you are passionate about joining the team but don’t hit all our preferred qualifications please reach out anyway!

Compensation
